ABOUT ME
My name is Chloe, but I also go by クロイ, which is the Japanese version of my name. The characters for "Kuroi" (黒い) mean "black," which is my favorite color. I feel like the name suits me well, not just because of the meaning, but because it also reminds me of Kuromi from Sanrio—specifically the darker versions of the character that I’m drawn to.
I’m currently a sophomore living in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where I’ve spent my entire life. It was during the pandemic that I discovered anime, and that led me down a path of exploring Japanese culture, language, and cosplay. In 2022, I attended the LAX Anime Expo with my family, and that’s when I did my first cosplay. From there, it became a passion that’s now a big part of who I am.
Some of my main interests include drawing, cosplay, and wearing Japanese fashion, especially 地雷系 (Jirai-kei) styles. While I’ve been drawing for a long time, it’s only recently that I’ve felt confident enough in my cosplay skills to call myself a “cosplayer.” A lot of my friends have asked for my help with their own cosplays, and I’ve even inspired some of them to start cosplaying themselves. It’s a great feeling to share something I’m passionate about and to help build a small community around it.
When it comes to personal values, I’d say I’m always striving for growth and creativity. Whether it’s pushing myself to improve my cosplay techniques or studying Japanese, I want to keep evolving and expressing myself in new ways. Fashion and style are also a big part of my identity, though I feel more free to experiment when I’m in Japan, where the culture is more accepting of bold and unconventional styles.
Right now, I’m focused on mastering Japanese and developing my art in the 地雷系 aesthetic, blending in some emotional themes. My goal is to pass the JLPT N2 exam before I graduate and to become more established as a cosplayer online. I’m also aiming to become fluent in Japanese, taking every chance I get to practice when I’m in Japan.
If there’s one thing that really defines me, it’s the constant desire to explore different facets of creativity and find new ways to express myself, whether through art, fashion, or language.
